Leutenez Eddy & Maarten (Ruien) - 1st National Chateauroux 13.852 young birds (fastest 16,183 birds)

The last national race with the young pigeons of the season, excitement everywhere for the victory and the battle with the national ace pigeons. It was an exciting battle in a tough race with the warm temperatures. The winner with the young pigeons is “New Oscar”, which is owned by the top colony Eddy & & Maarten Leutenez from Ruien in East Flanders. This is the 8th national victory of their career for them, but the first at the new location where the racing pigeons are now raced. The winner is a real super pigeon, “New Oscar” previously also won 2 top results in the national flights, which meant that he was still in the running for national ace pigeons and was basketted as the 1st nominated. Just like about 40 others who scored low with 2 flights, there was tension everywhere, but by winning the 1st National Chateauroux against 14,183 young pigeons he could of course finish high in the rankings and he won silver at the end of the race. So he becomes 2nd National Ace Pigeon longer middle distance youngsters KBDB 2023 was the icing on the cake for this colony with their top season with the young pigeons.

The winner himself is a beautiful cock that has everything one could dream of, soft plumes, strongly built, well closed, ... the qualities that one wants in a real top pigeon.

System with the young pigeons

The young pigeons are played on the sliding door, just like many lofts. Aviaries have been built in front of the flying lofts in which the pigeons usually stay and which can be shielded with windbreak mesh. If the wind really blows too hard, the pigeons simply won't get in.

It was a tough period for “New Oscar” itself. After the first national flight from Bourges he lost his hen, on the next Bourges his next hen was gone again. You would think that a pigeon would be demotivated by this, but he had already hooked a new hen against Argenton, but at Chateauroux it was a complete success. He missed last week from Montoire which was our worst flight with the young pigeons this season in terms of leading pigeons and on Thursday we drove back with the pigeons to give them confidence. We left earlier than expected due to the warm temperatures and “New Oscar” took care of 2 boxes, we had taken the cock from the other box so that he could do his thing completely and therefore also had 2 hens completely for him in which he could go up and down. went. This will be the right motivation to deliver this top performance.

The pigeons train once every day, always in the morning. After the previous flight from Montoire, the pigeons were not allowed to stay together for so long with a view to Chateauroux. Recovery was the message and everything for the last flight. During basketing we usually vary in motivation, either for an hour together in the morning, or for fifteen minutes together just before basketing, or we drive it as we have done now.

In the beginning we mainly use Racing mix 1 and 3 from Aidi for the shorter flights, but once it gets heavier we switch to the Vanrobaeys mixtures. This is Flight Exclusive and Top Energy. In terms of additional products, we use a lot of the Röhnfried range, this is mainly Mumm, Rotosal, Hexenbier (a lot for young pigeons before the season), Gerwit-W, BT-Amin. We also use Hepasan from Probel-Fly and Tolyaminn Forte from Schroeder – Tollisan. We visit the latter once or twice a year in Kerkrade, during the season itself we go for a check-up at Van der Cruyssen because it is closer. The pigeons are purified before the season against tricho and respiratory tract. We use a pill every 3 weeks against tricho and one every 4 weeks against coccidiosis. The pigeons are often in the basket for 2 nights or even more, so we don't want to take any risks here. There is no blind treatment for airways, we always go for a check-up.

The young pigeons are vaccinated against Paramyxo Rota, Parmayxo, Paratyphys and then smallpox.
