Van Loock – De Laet, Vilvoorde shine on Noyon in the Hoppe region

The tandem Jean De Laet and Maurice Van Loock are racing pigeons together already since 1995. The racing lofts are at Maurice's place. Especially racing on the short distance races they're doing really well here in the Hoppe region and can be found yearly amongst the national and provincial champions. The beauty about this union is that you can test your pigeons against 3000 - 4000 and even 5000 youngsters and make like this your colony stronger. The goal is now to make another loft to race the middle distance races as they won a few years ago with 'Speedy' the 1st National Ace bird middle distance KBDB year birds. In total they won 21 first pure prizes and 174x TOP 10, pure class.
Breeding base
We have about 20 to 25 breeding couples with always some test couples amongst them. Our breeding base is from Geens and Salens De Boelpaep. The past few years we did really well with reinforcement from Pierre Beyl, Eddy Caluwe, Vandenwijngaert & Zoon , Francois Tobback and Van Avondt Danny & Nick.
How do you prepare your racing team for the season ?
In 2020 we had 16 widow cocks that only raced short distance races, the upcoming season we want to have one loft more and that one will be for the middle distance races.
End of 2019 the racing pigeons could raise a couple of youngsters together with the breeders. Due to the later start of the season we started to darken the old pigeons as well and stopped everything the 20th of June. There isn't a second coupling before the start of the racing season.
The pigeons are always being raced until half August, than they go on holiday which they find equally important as the pigeons.
Toss a lot is the message
Our pigeons train normally once a day, first of all the widow cocks afterwards the youngsters. Once the young pigeons are on the sliding door system the cocks get out first and than the hens. When it is really hot in summer we like to get up really early and take the pigeons to 40 - 45 km and toss them. This is a win-situation for us and the pigeons train really well. We let them out with half an hour difference between old and young. During the season we do this sometimes 3 to 4x a week, we don't see a lot of difference between tossing them or not but it saves us a lot of work. At arrival the youngsters can stay together for about 15 minutes, for the old ones there's nothing waiting during the season.
This is different in compairison with a real race off course. Than we do give attention to the old ones and show them their hen for 5 to 15 minutes or show their nest dish. Variation keeps the motivation in them until the end of the season.
For th youngsters it is really different and leave them together for one to 1,5 hour before the race and basket them like that.
At arrival of a race the old pigeons can also stay together for one hour at the beginning and along the season progresses this becomes longer and longer. The youngster can do whatever they want and the goal there is that as many couples as possible are being formed so the sliding door system works.

Guidance
In a matter of food we trust on one brand and that is Beyers, the pigeons get the entire season long Premium Vandenabeele, Super Widowhood and Premium Youngsters.
As side-products we make especially use of the Backs gamma where we like the tea and anti slime and on Sundays we use the Pro+ for recovery of the muscles. Aside that we also give Vi-Spu-Min + Backs brewer's yeast over the food.
For the medical story we cure once against trichomoniases in Spring and during the season we make us of the yellow drops. This is in fact the same as where we treath for before the season for the airways. Vaccinations are against paramyxo, small pocks for the youngster and parathypoid with a cure and vaccination.
