The class of the "Nieuwe Olympiade" at Eijerkamp Hans and Evert-Jan

19 Mar 2024

As mentioned in a previous report, a six-member team is responsible for the care and training of the pigeons at the Eijerkamp lofts. Lotte Eijerkamp's racing team is trained and cared for by Oliver Sabol. Esther Noorderijk is responsible for the youngsters and in the last weeks of this season also for the entire old racing team of Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp. Arnold Paalman, Gerjan Remmerts and Rick Wuestenenk exclusively take care of the breeding pigeons. Henk Jurriens is Hans and Evert-Jan's right-hand man and has been known as the main contact for many for decades. Operating in pigeon racing as the Eijerkamps have done for more than 50 years requires a team of this size because the Eijerkamp name stands for quality and professionalism, and only in this way can both be fully guaranteed. This is again evident in this year's results.

Heremans-Ceusters

During one of our conversations with Hans Eijerkamp, he mentioned several times that the Heremans-Ceusters pigeons were the first pigeons that really gave a serious "Swung" to the performance of the Eijerkamp pigeons. The Heremans pigeons arrived at the Eijerkamp loft in 2006 after a recommendation from Willem de Bruijn to visit Leo Heremans and Karel Ceusters. The rest is history: the pigeons made an impression and after some youngsters changed lofts and wrote their success story on Greenfield Stud, Hans and Evert-Jan continue to breed the line of these pigeons in their lofts. It is a story that could be straight out of a fairy tale book. You recognise the class of a loft, you buy pigeons there and you are at least as successful with it as the fancier the pigeons came from.

When Hans & Evert-Jan learned that all pigeons from Heremans-Ceusters were sold in March 2007, they wanted only one thing: to buy the top pigeons and cherish them! They had had great success with these pigeons in a short time and buying the best from Vorselaar would give the Eijerkamp colony an unprecedented boost. It became a sale the men will remember for a long time: pigeons like 'Euro', 'Rossi', 'Spinneke', 'Peter', 'Charlene', 'Magician', 'Mysterious' and, of course, supercrack 'Jackpot' moved to the Greenfield Stud to provide offspring. The vision of the men Eijerkamp became a reality.

“De Nieuwe Olympiade”

In 2013, at Leo Heremans' total sale, NIEUWE OLYMPIADE was purchased for a record sum. That fantastic cock was one of the eye-catchers in the sale. In the pedigree of the "NIEUWE OLYMPIADEe" we see on the father's side the input of Gerard Koopman (Ermerveen, NL) such as "Mister Ermerveen", "Dream Lady" and "Kleine Dirk" and of course the Olympiade of Heremans-Ceusters. The mother was bred from Leo's "Favourite Pair" containing the blood of "De Jan", "Jackpot" and again the "Olympiade".

The "Nieuwe Olympiade" himself was able to bring home the following prizes:

 1st Quievrain 2,460b.
 2nd Quievrain 2,790b.
 3rd Quievrain 2,073b.
25th Quievrain 1,152b.
34th Quievrain 2,054b.

"NIEUWE OLYMPIADE" became 2nd Olympiad pigeon Poznan Cat. F in 2011.

But the fairy tale is not over yet because after his transfer to Brummen, "NIEUWE OLYMPIADEe" emerged as one of the best breeders ever.

“De Nieuwe Olympiade” became (grand) father of:
1st Nat. asduif Portugal ’16
1st Gowran park 25.621b.
1st Open Tullamore 20.315b.
1st Prov. Chalons 20.306b.
1st Nat. Fontenay 12.727b.
1st NPO Tongeren 12.699b.
1st Prov. Laon 11.179b.
1st Prov. Laon 7.594b.
1st Prov. Nanteuil 7.509b.

1st NPO Nanteuil 4.457b.
1st Nat. Lieberec 2.105b.

and so on

Rarely seen a breeder leave its "mark" on international pigeon racing like this.
