Both Stijn Van Laere as José Van Laere had an amazing season in 2020

21 Nov 2020

Kruisem: Despite the fact that we aren’t surprised anymore, we are still more then impressed by the results set by the Van Laere family. ‘Magic’….is in fact the correct word when we analyse the results of the past years set by both José as Stijn.
Also in 2020 everything went as a well-oiled machine and the 1st and headprizes came in more than easy out the sky in Kruisem. A super season and this results off course with different rankings in both national as provincial championships:

7th National Champion KBDB Small Middle distance Youngsters (José)
8th  National Ace bird KBDB Small Middle distance yearlings  (José)
8th  National Ace bird KBDB Small Middle distance Youngsters (José)

1st  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Small Middle distance yearlings  (José)
2nd  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Small Middle distance yearlings  (Stijn)
2nd  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Small Middle distance youngsters(José)
1st  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Round of Belgium (José)
2nd  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Allround Youngsters (Stijn)
3rd  Provincial Ace bird KBDB Short Distance Youngsters (José)
4th  Provincial Champion KBDB Small Middle Distance youngsters (José)

Both with cocks, hens and youngsters

The cocks are being raced on the classic widowhood and this according the known formula that has proven its use since years on the short distance and middle distance namely showing shortly their hen before basketing and this to get the motivation as high as possible. At arrival the couples are being left together and this timed according the function of the season (less at the beginning) or in function of the heaviness of the race. At a hard race or further along the season the pigeons are being left together a bit longer. Also a good condition is being kept an eye on and latecomers or pigeons that miss are being kept at home for a week. The cocks train twice a day and train without any problem 40 to 45 minutes (closed window). At the beginning of the season they are being obliged to build up a trainings rhythm, but once the season has started off this is more an obvious part of the preparation. The pigeons are being tossed about 5 times at the start of the season until Templeuve and from then on they go along with the club. In the meantime they aren’t being tossed anymore as they are being basketed mostly every week. On the loft of the widow cocks the cocks reside 5 rows of boxes on top of each other and two more rows of boxes are at the front of the loft opposite the other boxes. This is something that triggers the motivation and the territory urge. On the lofts no straw or rosters but daily cleaning.

The hens are also raced on the widowhood system. No total widowhood, both the cocks as hens have home staying partners. The hens are being locked up during daytime in a small aviary. The hens train once a day and train about half an hour…keeping them up in the air is hard to do. Before basketing their cock is being showed about 30 minutes. The hens aren’t being tossed in between either.

The youngsters aren’t being raced on widowhood and stay together during the entire season and are being basketing according the position they’re in. The training of the youngsters is almost equal to this of the old ones namely about 5 to 6 times tossing out of Templeuve (and release them sometimes together with the pigeons from the club). They aren’t being released individually or in small groups. At a hard race or a race where the pigeons don’t to come in too smoothly they dare to toss them from a short distance during the week to increase the confidence a bit.

Favourite race Orleans

Although they don’t say it in so many words but I got the impression the inter provincial race out of Orleans is being highlighted on the calendar. Also this year they worked towards this race with the necessary motivation and as it fits the real masters in this profession they scored. Enjoy along:

1st Interprov. Orleans 4,436 year birds with “308-19”

The interprovincial victory against 4,436 year birds was won by cock “308”. This wasn’t the first for this guy as as youngster he won already 7x 1/10 with ao (without doubles): 2nd Pontoise 750b. 2nd Interprov. Orleans 17,442 youngsters with “323-20”

At local level they won the 1st prize against 694 youngsters and interprovincial it was the 2nd against 17,422 youngsters. Coming back again to those superior classful pigeons. But also on the breeding loft the ‘666’ is very successful as he is father to ao: 2nd National Ace bird short distance France. The “323-20” is on mothers’ side a grandson to the 1st National Ace bird KBDB greater middle distance 2012 and Olympiad bird Nitra ‘13 “Bender” (B11-4220607) coupled to “621-16” (mother to the 1st Interprov.  Orleans 4,436b.)

2nd Interprov. Orleans 2,552 old with “160-17”

Here it was top pigeon “160-17” that won the 2nd prize interprovincial against 2,552 old birds. Before this he already won 20 x 1/10 with ao: (without doubles): 1st Clermont 504b. (89km) – 6th Fontenay 239b. (319km) – 7th Fontenay 279b. (319km) and so on…

His father is “B15-4071194” (won 1st Orleans 622b. and 21 x 1/10)  and his mother is “037-15” (winner of 3rd Clermont 255b. – 6th Clermont 168b. and 9th Clermont 243b.)

A colony based on

Their own old strain that has proven its strength since years now on the short distance and middle distance. This strain has been formed in fact with pigeons from Germain Imbrechts (Bornival and which are in fact long distance pigeons), late Lucien Vansteenbrugge (Zingem), Willy Thas (Melle), Freddy and Jacques Vandenheede (Zingem), Astere Vergotte (Aalter), Ludo Van Nueten from Herentals (strain Houben + Vandewouwer) and Raymond Wandels from Asper. Out of these strains a whole new line was built. Since a few years in a row also pigeons are being exchanged (with success) with François Tobback (Hofstade-Mechelen). These pigeons are being kept really close to nature by François and are very good for co-breeding with the pigeons from José and Stijn. A few years ago they also got Heremans-pigeons and also with a lot of success. In almost all the current top racers you can find the Heremans blood crossed in. Also the pigeons from Surinx-Pletsers impress on the breeding loft.
