bombeke luc: a breeding loft with world class genes
Luc and Dries Bombeke's love for pigeon racing is pure heritage. For several generations, the passion has been passed on from father to son. Georges Bombeke, Luc's father, was already a passionate pigeon fancier and passed on the microbe to his son. Dries inherited the same inspiration from Luc and also lives next to the parental home. He races under his own name in the old loft of his other grandfather, Aimé Glorieux. In this way, the family tradition remains firmly rooted in the pigeon sport.
The foundation of the current stock was laid in 2006, with the arrival of two absolute top breeders from Guido Van Caneghem. These pigeons form a crucial foundation within the breeding loft to this day.
This was followed by several reinforcements, including Bauters Jo, known for his phenomenal Fabian. Bombeke has direct youngsters from this talented breed.
In 2016, a few eggs from yearlings were obtained via good friend Tom Van Gaver. These yearlings have developed into real icons, such as Finn and Magic Bart, grandchildren Ricky and White Finn confirm their class.
The friendship with Tom created a new connection: that with Bart Geerinckx. A few pigeons were also obtained via a voucher, including a grandchild of the world famous Gladiator.
In the years 2019 and 2023, Luc and Dries also invested in strengthening Gino Clicque. They added grandchildren of such champions as Golden Prince, Prins Rudy, several national winners and national ace pigeons.
Because Dries is employed by BRICON, additional valuable blood was purchased from Team Baetens: pigeons came from Team Baetens, including a brother of the 5th National Ace Pigeon '214' and children of RAX, 2nd National Ace Pigeon.
They didn't sit still in the extreme long distance either. In recent years, pigeons have been obtained from De Molenaar, 1st National Ace Pigeon, from Camiel Van De Sande, in order to be ready for the future, even on the toughest work.
The racing team (pigeons from 2021-2022-2023) that is now going under the hammer is an excellent opportunity for every fancier who wants to strengthen his colony with:
- Multiple 1st prize winners
- National top-100 performance pigeons
- Strong long distance orientation and proven endurance
- Descendants of the best Belgian modern performance lines
"Important to emphasise: only the racing pigeons (2021-2022-2023) from Luc Bombeke are offered in this auction. The racing pigeons of Dries Bombeke are not part of this auction. It concerns two separate racing lofts."
Lofts and system
Luc has garden lofts at home where he races with both old and yearling pigeons: about 20 cocks and 32 hens in the classic widowhood. Since 2022, a loft with hens has also been entered for the one day long distance. The first round of youngsters is trained by Luc and raced according to the sliding door system.
Dries puts the emphasis mainly on the old and yearling team. Since 2022, he has started from an open aviary. From 2023 onwards, they will race on total widowhood. In the longer term, the goal is to grow into the extreme long distance and the international races, an ambitious process that is being built up step by step. The second round of youngsters goes to Dries; They mainly serve as a reserve and are especially well trained.
System old & hens
"Luc": The actual old racing pigeons are coupled together with the breeders and raise one couple of youngsters. The yearlings do not participate in the winter breeding, because they are not yet completely moulted due to the lighting.
The last weekend of March all the cocks are coupled, so that they can brood for about 10 days and then be trained. Then the classic widowhood starts.
The racing hens are coupled the first weekend of April and stay together until the end of brooding.
Luc & Dries' cocks train together just like the hens. The first training sessions will start at the beginning of March and they would like to see a 45min training at the end of March. While Luc chooses to bring his pigeons to the nest, Dries chooses a different approach. Dries doesn't couple his racing team anymore, as he goes for the total widowhood system. After the laying of the eggs, the groups are let out together again. However, it is noted that the pigeons with a nest have a greater training work in this period of the season. As confirmed by many in March/April, the basic condition is laid for the rest of the season.
The training of the old racing team is going quite smoothly. In two steps (10km and 20km) the pigeons can join the society for their first sprint race.
Young pigeons
The first round is in the lofts of Luc. These are darkened from the end of March to June 21. From the longest day they are then lightened until the end of the season. From the beginning of March, the youngsters of the first round are encouraged to train for a 10 minutes. After half a week they start training on their own and the training work quickly increases from 45min to 1h. The training takes place in a little more steps than the old racing team. Here jumps of 5km are taken. So start at 5km-10km-15km-20km. Normally they don't ride any further, as they can then join a training flight of 45km through the company. After two training races the first sprint race is chosen. In terms of system, they are raced on the sliding door from the beginning of July until the end of the season.
The 2nd round that is not darkened and is on the aviary, is handled much less carefully. These are only dedicated 3 times and then go to 45km (2 times) and from there directly to Noyon interprovincial, this resulted in very few losses.
