Haak-Soen (Moerbeke) strongholders in the great middle distance

06 Jan 2023

In 2015, Bjorn Haak and David Soen decided to join forces and form a "pigeon team" together. Both gentlemen could already present the necessary letters of honour but as both Bjorn and David have to combine a full-time job with a family with growing children, it was a bright idea to go for it together in pigeon racing.
Both David and Bjorn have a predilection for the great middle distance races and these are marked in fluor on the race calendar. Races such as Argenton, Chateauroux, La Souterraine, Bourges, etc... always increase their motivation level.
Bjorn was born in the pigeon loft, so to speak. Father Frans was an champion on the short distance and together with mum Amanda they could even make the drinker win a first prize. They had only 1 secret... only kept the best birds that were strictly selected every year.
After the death of father Frans, Bjorn continued pigeon racing successfully with mum Amanda. David was also infected with the pigeon virus via his father as well as his godfather. David always raced in his own name. In 2013 he became, among others, 3rd National Champion KBDB small middle distance.
The tasks were divided perfectly with David taking care of the breeders and Bjorn together with mum Amanda taking care of the widowers, racing hens and youngsters. The base of the colony is formed by pigeons from Eddy Anckaert, Jozef Wellemans, Martin de Roover, Eric Brootcoorens and Herbots Gebroeders (very successful breeders who have already produced several zonal winners).

Years of top results
The Haak-Soen tandem are among those fanciers who can rarely talk about a "bad season". Of course, like everyone else, they have "lesser weeks" once in a while but when the balance sheet is taken at the end of the season, they can never complain. So as not to publish an endless list of results, we have deliberately listed some great results from the last 4 seasons. Results that say more than 1,000 words and give you a perfect picture of the high class birds present under the roof there in Moerbeke.

Top pair "Nelis" x "Vliegvanger"

What is striking about the Haak-Soen birds is that, both at short- and in the great middle-distance races, they so very much like to fly at the head of the result. Especially when the wind blows on the nose and the sky is beautifully blue, the Haak-Soen pigeons can always do that little bit more. A trait that is simply ingrained in the DNA of these pigeons.

One of the top couples that passed on head-flying to their children perfectly is "Nelis" x "Vliegenvanger", they are the parents of

The extra boost of Herbots Gebroeders pigeons
It will just happen to you that you are at a wedding and none other than the Herbots family turns out to be among the invitees. No wonder Bjorn started talking to Filip Herbots, who recently passed away. Soon it was about pigeons and those who knew Filip know that Filip was never shy to help fanciers and also that particular evening it was agreed that Bjorn and David could go and fetch some eggs a few weeks later in Halle-Booienhoven.
A gesture Bjorn and David will never forget and the beauty of the story is that the powerful Herbots grabbed pigeons like the best butter on the Haak-Soen pigeons.

Out of one of the eggs came "Black Herbots" (B15-4106079).
She became the mother of "New Frans"

And how about the breeding references of "Little Orange King" (B15-4106111).
He became father to the following toppers

But the breeding references of "Son Olympic Boss" B15-4106015 are also worth seeing. He became father of:

"Nafi" and her half-brother "Jan"
The wealth of toppers is unique at the Haak-Soen home. The following 2 toppers can certainly be put in the spotlights

Reason for the auction
Since the inception of the tandem, the Haak-Soen name has been raced on the lofts behind mum Amanda's house. But since a few years, Amanda's house has been sold to a family member and there was an agreement that the "old lofts" could still be raced on until 2022. From now on, the "old lofts" will get a new destination and from 2023 onwards, the pigeons will be raced on a new loft installation which is located behind Bjorn's house. This is therefore the only reason why the proven racing team will be put up for sale.

An unique opportunity to strengthen your breeding loft with proven toppers. Offered here is the exceptional strength of a strictly selected colony.
