Rigo Lenaers from Vliermaal on track at the start of the season thanks to 8 x 1st Regional in the Province of Limburg

We introduced the colony of Rigo Lenaers from Vliermaal in Limburg to you for the first time last winter. Now that we are a month into the season, we are going to visit him again because he is making a strong start to the new season. Week after week, several top prizes are won and in total he won 8 x 1st region in South East Limburg. All this thanks to the contribution of his super breeder “Super 485” ( Grandson Olympiade 003 Leo Heremans ) and the crossing with Frans and Gert Rondags ( Inteelt Nafi ). In addition, we should certainly not forget the crossing of "Super 485" with the pigeons of Frank Neven. So you have the 3 basic lines that ensure all the successes here at the moment.

These are also doing well for Frank Neven this season, because here too 1st Region Mettet was won against 1,718 pigeons. This came again from stock father "Super 485". Another grandson of "Super 485" also won 1st against 301 pigeons on Chimay this year and was also one of the best cocks in the Frank Neven house as a youngster last year.

Which pigeons are you currently flying with?

The regular racing team consists of 27 widowers and 21 hens. One loft is raced here in total widowhood and 2 lofts in classic widowhood. This loft has had a nest and raised youngsters. They are let out once a day, the pigeons never train here twice a day.

I have a team of late youngsters from last year (4th series) that have not done much as a youngster but have been trained well. These are about 30 pigeons that I now race in total widowhood. They were coupled in the spring and Rigo let them breed 8 or 9 pigeons and that's how they started the season. They train once a day, the hens always do this in the morning, they are always in the aviary all day and in the evening they can go back to their resting loft.

How do you motivate your pigeons?

The pigeons of total widowhood always come together on Wednesday for 2 hours and are then basketed on the day of basketing. The pigeons of the classic widowhood get to see their partner briefly for 5 to 10 minutes on the day of basketing. Rigo just does the difference in motivation for the sake of convenience so that he doesn't have a lot of work on Friday and can take everything away quietly.

When they return home they can always stay together for 1h30 with a smooth flight, if it has been more difficult then they stay together longer.

Accompaniment

Rigo likes to keep it simple, the food costs a lot of money and he trusts the Hoebrechts mixtures. The pigeons are usually given Moulting mixture, except on Thursday evening, Friday morning and Friday evening ( ½ portion ). Then they get Sports Mixture and Sedochol is regularly added to the feed. When they return home, they always receive electrolytes as a recovery.

The medical story is easy with the racing pigeons, they receive a cure against paratyphus without vaccination in both autumn and spring. In the spring they are then set clean against tricho and so far only the widowers have had another ¼ flagyl. This season has not yet been treated for the respiratory tract and he regularly checks up with Vincent Schroeder or Raf Herbots before undergoing blind treatment.
