An amazing hen that puts a national race as top of the bill on her palmaris, this is what Walter Lambeets experienced on Saturday. He clocked his two-year old hen 2084941/2015 at 13h46 and became the fastest old bird out of Chateauroux. She left 10,390 old ones behind her and was already good for 5 x TOP 101 National and 6 x TOP 30 provincial. A classful hen with a palmaris we can all dream off and by hand a small classful hen with very soft feathers and strong muscles. She wasn’t in great shape yet this year but 2 weeks ago on Argenton she showed her qualities again and now on Chateauroux she headed direct for the victory.
Walter has been very close to a national victory before with more than one top 10 quotation but he didn’t expect this to happen. For someone with a racing team of only 6 pigeons, this is a true stunt.
The national winner is out an interaction with Vinck Ceusters from Nieuwrode where yearly pigeons are being exchanged. This is also the case with ‘De Swi’ where yearly the first round moves from Germany to Aarschot.
A small racing team but a severe selection
During the winter period only four old hens are being coupled to raise a couple of youngsters. When their youngsters became ten days old the hens were being removed from the nest. The cocks raise these youngsters and when the youngsters are weened, the loft is being cleaned thoroughly and the hens can go back on the loft. The trainings are being started again from then on and they can work on their base condition. The year birds are never being coupled before the racing season.
In Spring they only come out in the evening. They hold on to this rhythm until the time it becomes light enough early in the morning and it becomes possible for Walter to train the pigeons in the morning. As from mid of May the pigeons only train once a week at home and this is on Monday morning. On Tuesday and Wednesday they are being taken away together with the youngsters and fly 20 minutes extra.
Before basketing they all see their partner, this variates between 30 to 60 minutes. As from the first flight they stay together until the day afterwards in the morning. When they have to race national races they stay together until Sunday afternoon.
Also during the week there is some variation as the hens stay on chapels once in a while or remain half-boxed. This is dependable on how eager they are to pair up. But they do enter a race every week. As they have to race this much they also need a good support. They get 100% Super Recup Anthoons at the beginning of the week, the last 2 days they 50% Energy Plus Versele Laga and Top Energy N°35 Vanrobaeys ( with Bordeaux corn ). At homecoming it is 50% Super Recup and 50% fat rich mixture and get Entrodex from Koehoorn in the drinking water together with Immunol from Schroeder – Tollisan. He goes for a check-up every three weeks and until now there has been done very little in a matter of medical support.
