Broeckx Niels - Oud-Turnhout 1st Prov. Aurillac old and 1st Prov. Aurillac yearling

19 Jul 2023

Oud-Turnhout: If we put the Antwerp provincial results of the national long-distance flight Aurillac under the microscope, the analysis is very quick. Broeckx Niels, Marleen and Jan took the sheet to themselves and did not leave much for the competition. For those who missed it

Provincial Antwerp:

462 olds: 1st, 2nd, 4th etc....-
649 yearlings: 1st

National
5,342 olds: 3rd, 7th and 11th
6,512 yearlings: 7th

Jan: "We had analysed the weather forecast very well and finally the wind started blowing a bit more in our favour. For that reason 57 pigeons went with us to Aurillac. The registrations indicated that we had to clock before 16h27 to win provincially and big was our surprise when at 16h17 the first Aurillac flyer registered and 8 minutes later 5 pigeons were already home. These are some arrivals you won't easily forget as a fancier. Those arrivals you relive in your bed at night.

The toppers of this flight are:

"B22-6060234"
1st provincial - 7th National Aurillac 6,512 yearlings

"B19-6066126"
1st provincial - 3rd National Aurillac 5,342 olds

"B19-6066027"
2nd provincial - 7th National Aurillac 5,342 old

"B19-6066227"
11th National Aurillac 5,342 old

System

At Oud-Turnhout, they love to race with the pigeons anyway. Every week, the Broeckx family is at the basketing table for Quievrain (136km), Noyon, small middle distance and long distance races. Jan says: "Over the years, we have bred a type of pigeons that can stand out on both speed and long distance (700km) races. If you play all flights weekly, you must have a nice racing team and at the start of the 2023 season, 120 racers were listed on the loft list. These are 90 hens and 30 cocks which are all raced with a stay-at-home partner. We have 12 cocks for the Quievrain races, 12 hens for Noyon, 6 pigeons for the small middle-distance races and the rest for the middle-distance and long-distance races.
The racers are paired for the first time at the end of April/beginning of May and can stay together for a maximum of 5 days. Our system is that they first do a few speed races before being paired.
In terms of feed, we are fans of the Beyers mixtures. The pigeons are given Beyers Energy when they arrive home, then Beyers Vandenabeele is on the menu before switching back to Beyers Energy during the last feeds.
As for by-products, products from the Herbots Animal Products and Herbovet range go in the drinking water or over the feed with clock-like regularity.
Medically, we visited vet Raf Herbots after Limoges. We did have 3 pigeons in the Top-65 national then but we still had too many pigeons behind in the evening and we did not like that 100%. Raf advised us to treat against ornithosis for 3 days and maybe that has stimulated the forme because the last 4 weeks our name has been at the top of the result no less than 15 times, this on all distances.

And now?

"Well...the 10 first clocked Aurillac pigeons will go to Libourne. Normally we play the long-distance pigeons every week, but with Aurillac they had a relatively easier flight and they can go again.
Mentioned in passing, my "227-19" won 11th Nat. Aurillac 5,342d. and 55th Nat. Limoges 7,211d. this season, you never know there is a nice ace pigeon classification in it.
