Unlike last year, at this time, the workforce has not collapsed. They even held up very well. Compared to 2022, the youngsters have progressed by 5,444 pigeons, a bonus of 41%. All the provinces and EPR are in this same positive spiral with certain variations. LNL and Flemish Brabant have more than doubled their squads. On the other hand, the 2 Flanders and the HBW remain more discreet. West Flanders grew by only 1%, East Flanders by 10% and the HBW by 13%. Limburg triples the number of pigeons and Antwerp has 85% more. In the old birds, the growth is 1,714 pigeons, or 75%. LNL goes from 76 to 329 olds; this is the strongest progression.

The pigeons were released at 8:30 a.m. in a temperature of 13°C and a light southerly wind, which was to accompany the pigeons passing SW throughout the course. Apart from rare light rains in the 2 Flanders, the weather remained dry everywhere.

Youth National Top 10

1. 2. VEULEMANS-PERILLEUX of Vissenaken, 1749,4142 m

3. B Lambrechts of Berlaar, 1741,1510 m

4. S Brugmans of Halen, 1740.5368m

5. Hermans-Bonne de Halen, 1739.5560 m

6. Van den Abbeel-Peleman from Buggenhout, 1738.8945 m

7. Roziers-Xiang from Itegem, 1738.2348m

8. S Lambrechts from Nijlen, 1735.9510 m

9. C Lambrechts de Berlaar, 1734.0277m

10. Van Oeckel B&N from Oud-Turnhout, 1733.9574m

The wind from the SW sector was beneficial for the Flemish provinces, with the exception of West Flanders which does not enter the top 100. This is divided between Antwerp which dominates the competition with 71 prizes, the Flemish Brabant 14, East Flanders 8 and Limburg 7. Suffice to say that the south of the country, in its entirety, is excluded from the top 100.

The 4 provinces present in the top 100 are also all 4 in the top 10.

With almost 1750m, it made sense to achieve this pattern with long distance dominance.

A few colonies manage to win several times in the top 100. This is the case of Van Oeckel B & N ranked 10, 19, 28, 31, 44, 63, 64, 68, 95, Brent Lambrechts 23, 25 , 50, 52, 56, 85, Van den Abbeel-Peleman 6, 27, 73, 74, 76, H Hermans 12, 37, 39, 41, 46, Roziers-Xiang 7, 16, 26, 72…

The PMs are very rare in the top 100. We point to Y Van de Poel ranked 18 of 20 entered, L Jordens 36 of 4 entered, W Roziers 53 of 16 entered, Dockx-Van den Broecke 54 of 13 entered...

First arrivals by province and EPR

Flemish Brabant, Veulemans-Perilleux de Vissenaken, 1749.4142 m, 1 national

Antwerp, Bert Lambrechts from Berlaar, 1741,1510 m, 3 nat.

Limburg, S Brugmans from Halen, 1740,5368 m, 4 nat.

East Flanders, Van den Abbeel-Peleman de Buggenhout, 1738.8845 m, 6 nat.

West Flanders, I Huygens from Avelgem, 1686.7799 m, 300 nat.

EPR HBW, Casaert-Sénéchal de Russeignies “H”, 1683.9674 m, 321 nat (A Vacaru de Haut Ittre “BW”, 1565.8848 m, 3049 nat)

EPR LNL, Leroy P & D de Racour “Lg”, 1647.2202 m, 856 nat (G De Temmerman de Auvelais “N”, 1633.3498 m, 1143 nat and V Lebeau de Hotton “Lx”, 1630.2142 m , 1220 nat)

The break is huge between the top 4 provinces and the others.

The areas in a nutshell

Zone A1, 1283 young

With the debacle in the province of West Flanders, we had to expect big delays in the A1 zone led by S Loyson de Handzame. The zone only starts at 2484 national and classifies only 30 pigeons, i.e. less than 1 pigeon out of 40 entered.

A few amateurs do well in the top 100. R Verhaest ranks 3, 10, 17, 28, 39, 42, 55, 62, 69, 71, 72, S Loyson 1, 26, 27, 40, 47, 75, 88, Denduyver F & K 2, 8, 9, 31, 45, 81, 94, H Bastiaenssens 6, 29, 34, 35, 48, 93, 97…

The Walloon colonies defend themselves with F Gaquière 4, 16, M Lizoen 13…

Zone A2, 3179 young

The area still starts outside the national top 100 with Vervaeke R & J from Deerlijk ranked 430 national. The end of the competition is also far from the expected prize percentage since only 451 pigeons are classified nationally, ie 1 pigeon out of 7 entered.

The top 100 reveals some good series such as C Debacker ranked 12, 29, 36, 52, 80, 81, 83, L Heggermont 7, 28, 30, 77, 79…

On the Walloon side, the first arrivals are for Nonckelynck-Verriest ranked 49, 56, 67, M Casaert 93, 99…

Zone A3, 2676 young

I Huygens de Avelgem wins the zone and the provincial of West Flanders, but only positions 300 national. With a delay of 39 meters at the end of the competition, the zone still loses 177 prizes at the national level.

The long series of prices are not really for the A3 area which has B Van den Berghe ranked 13, 19, 20, 90, 92, 97, X Verstraete 38, 39, 42, 65, 66, Delmulle E & K 33, 64, 75, 89…

The south of the country starts with Casaert-Sénéchal 3, K Saudoyez 9, 14, Defoort-Thiriau 29, A Creteur 52…

Zone B1, 2372 young

We not only enter the top 100, but also the national top 10 with Van den Abbeel-Peleman from Buggenhout, ranked 6 nationally. The zone won 8 times in the top 100 but, by finishing 23m after the national, it lost 86 prizes.

The series of prizes are linked in the top 100 with Team Baetens ranked 2, 12, 23, 25, 27, 38, 54, 61, 66, 73, 83, 86, 93, Team Noel-Willockx 5, 10, 17 , 49, 53, 55, 56, 65, 67, 82, 88, Van den Abbeel-Peleman 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 14, 19, 26, 44, N Van den Driessche 28, 30, 31, 42, 43, 47, 57, 81, M De Cock 21, 24, 50, 58, 75, 89, 90, 91…

With such a Flemish surge, the Walloon colonies are discreet with only Murez-Marichal 100.

Zone B2, 2990 young

Bert Lambrechts from Berlaar won in the area and ranked 3rd nationally. The zone occupies 2 places in the top 10 and 33 in the national top 100. The zone finishes 49 m before the national, which gives it 264 additional prizes.

In the price series we find Van Elsacker-Jepsen ranked 20, 27, 32, 59, 63, 71, S Lambrechts 2, 6, 35, 50, 74, Engels J & Y 14, 15, 55, 61, 87 …

No space is left for Walloon colonies in the top 100.

Zone B3, 2382 young

We remain in the top 10 nationally with 3 entries, including that of Roziers-Xiang de Itegem, 7th nationally. The zone has 38 prizes in the national top 100 and closes the race 81m ahead, a bonus of 395 prizes, resulting in a prize of 2.4 pigeons entered.

Very few fanciers break into the top 100, leaving the door open for long series of prizes such as Van Oeckel B&N ranked 3, 7, 13, 15, 18, 26, 27, 30, 37, 45, 62, 66, 80, 99, Brent Lambrechts 9, 11, 22, 23, 24, 34, 42, 87, 88, 89, Thys N & R 49, 50, 56, 57, 59, 61, 76, 96…

Once again, the top 100 does not include any Walloon colonies.

Zone B4, 2819 young

We find the 1, 2, 4 and 5 nationals including Veulemans-Perilleux de Vissenaken. The first 20 classified are distributed among the top 100 nationally, while the area can count on 234 additional national prizes.

The top 100 offers some nice series of prizes. Veulemans-Perilleux ranks 1, 2, 16, 25, 35, 45, 46, 76, 77, 85, D Tournelle 8, 39, 54, 55, 60, 88, 93, 95, F Monette 5, 9, 13 , 34, 53, 75…

The lack of Walloon colonies is repeated again in the top 100 of zone B4.

Zone C, 1136 young

M Maes from Maasmechelen wins in the area and ranks 99 nationally. Despite the fact that only one pigeon is in the national top 100, the zone places 5 additional pigeons in this race.

The prices follow one another for T Weytjens ranked 14, 20, 27, 30, 33, 49, 60, 63, 72, 74, 75, 79, 80, 81, 88, 97, 99, Bassez B & L 5, 7 , 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 26, 38, 40, 67, 71, 90, 93, 94, J Thone 6, 12, 36, 51, 53, 54, 59, 64, 78…

An area that is often very accessible to Walloon colonies, their presence is however restricted. We find JM Caro 25, S Vandermissen 29, S Vanvinckenroye 35, V Lebeau 39, H Savelberg 43, L Leruitte 55…

The change is radical compared to young people. The top 10 now only has 2 Flemish provinces; Antwerp, which won the victory, to the detriment of Flemish Brabant, is on the other hand losing ground in the top 100 with 57 prizes instead of 71. Hainaut offers itself 2 places in the top 100 and Limburg takes advantage of the decline in Antwerp to get rich with additional prizes. Thus, the top 100 is divided between Antwerp 57 prizes, Limburg 20, Flemish Brabant 14, East Flanders 7 and Hainaut 2. The 4 other Walloon provinces and West Flanders are still outside the top 100.

Repeat offenders are not uncommon, but some persist. This is the case of J Vercammen ranked 13, 14, 31, 35, 39, 47, 52, 62, 67, 81, 83, 93, A Roodhooft 1, 10, 20, 21, 28, 48, G Loockx 7 , 40, 55, 68, 73, H Hermans 8, 36, 59, 89, 91, De Weerd-Berckmoes 19, 34, 64, 97, 99… The top 100 also includes 1/1 of S Steenbergen ranked 27, P Roziers 42 and the superb 3/3 of N Van den Driessche 44, 74, 95.

Only O Poussart emerges in the top 100 by ranking 98 and 100.

The areas in a nutshell

Zone A1, 188 old

The numbers are lower, barely 5% of the national population. Moreover, with an unfavorable wind, difficult to be at the top of the national. Descheemaecker-Vanhauwaert from Veldegem, the winner of the zone, is only 657 national. The area has only 3 pigeons nationally, a prize of 63 entered.

It's hard to stand out with so few entries. In the prizes per 10, note the 2/2 of M Vanthournout ranked 8, 10, Decaestecker-Ghielens 2, 11.

The south of the country does not start in prices by 10.
