18 Jul 2022

In the tough national race from Gueret, Frank Monette from Webbekom clocked 3 yearlings in the top 30 National against 12,208 pigeons. His first pigeon “459/21” won the 1st Provincial Gueret against 1,638 pigeons and won silver at National level. The other topper of this season “125/21” is also related to the first arrival and comes from a strong family.

Base breeder 031

In the current 2 toppers that are presented here in this article, your stock breeder “031/06” will have returned in both pigeons. This was a top class pigeon in his career and won a.o. 1 Toury 1.066p - 1 Orleans 795p – 2 Soissons 492p – 8 Melun 602p – 9 Melun 1.401p – 10 Nat Bourges 11.875p – 10 Bourges 1.565p and much more. This is the only real stock father of this colony with mainly “Emile Clerinx” blood in him, which flew with his father the late André Monette. Unfortunately, such a classy pigeon was never entered for any ace pigeon, because we are sure that such a pigeon would have been mentioned several times.

Both with cocks and hens

Because last season the best youngsters were cocks, Frank wanted to test what they had to offer as a yearling. That is why it was decided to also race with cocks and to race the racing team on total widowhood, of which a few pigeons already have their partners stay at home because they are not good enough.

The racing pigeons did not breed in the winter and only got to know their partner when they returned home from the first flights. During the first flights they don't get together for long, Frank mainly wants to keep the focus and motivation and try to keep the team sharp towards national flights. The pigeons were also darkened from the beginning of March to the end of April and were at their best from the end of May.

Where in the past training was perhaps shorter, he still attaches great importance to this. Both teams fly twice a day for 45 minutes. Now due to the heavier flights, this pace is a bit less in the beginning, but this is still sufficient. Also, no risks are taken in very hot weather and the pigeons are either raced on a shorter flight or not. Better to fit in for a week than to run behind the facts for a whole season.

During the week, the hens sit on chapels and on slanting PVC pipes on the floor. The hens that nevertheless have the urge to mate do not belong in the discipline at the Monette house and they leave. No partners are shown during basketing. Now during tough national races they stay together until the next morning.

In the field of nutrition, we mainly work with the racing mixes 1 – 2 – 3 of Aidi and Natural mixtures. Frank tries to stick to the schedules that are proposed, but by having pigeons with myself that train hard, the pigeons also have to eat more than pigeons that fly 10 minutes a day. So the hand will be a little bigger than said.

He regularly undergoes medical checkups with Simon Cans (Galluvet) and NeorniPharma products are used. Until now, the racing pigeons were occasionally given something against tricho on advice after checking and nothing was done for the respiratory system.
