Jan Van der Putten (Handel) 41 x 1st prize in 2022 (incl. doubles)

With Jan van der Putten we talk about one of the very best lofts in the Netherlands. Further on in this report you can enjoy the magnificent results and impressive list of championships and first prizes. Winning seems so easy for the van der Putten pigeons and generation after generation, "winning first prizes" is passed on perfectly. This characteristic is clearly baked into the DNA of the van der Putten pigeons. 
Jan came into contact with pigeon racing through his brother Peter. Peter had pigeons but developed lung problems and asked his brother Jan to come and take care of the pigeons. No sooner said than done and without realising it the "pigeon bug" struck Peter. Fairly quickly, it was decided to move Peter's pigeons and lofts to Jan's garden in Handel (located in the province of North Brabant). Jan, a bricklayer by profession, knew he did not have the time to concentrate on all the disciplines of pigeon racing, so he decided to focus initially on young pigeon racing. Later, when he took early retirement, he racked up more spare time and since then has also played very successfully with yearlings and old birds. 

The base 
At the base of the van der Putten colony is still the line of "De Donkere 34", which became 1st ace youngster CC Uden in '90. In '99, he was paired against his daughter " 'T Goei Kwekertje" and "Black Dream" was born. This inbred cock immediately got a box on the breeding loft and can be labelled a real "stock bear". First reinforcements for this breeding line were obtained from the late Twan Brouwers. Hereby an hen called "Blue Dream", which Twan got from Staf Theeuwes (Oud-Turnhout). You probably guessed the continuation of the story. "Black Dream" was paired against "Blue Dream" and that baked like the best butter on a delicious sandwich. Suddenly, one 1st prize fancier after another was born. 
In 2001, Jan was at the front door of champion Ad Schaerlaeckens. A lovely chat later, Jan went home with 6 eggs and a youngster a few days old. That youngster came from the nest of "Home Alone" (1st Chantilly against 13,203d.) and was afterwards pinned on the name "Young Devil". "Young Devil" bred toppers in several generations in which "De Orleans". "De Orleans" won: 1st Orleans 637d. - 1st Peronne 2,076d. and bred in 2 generations 42 x 1st prizes where 1st Pithiviers 11,790d.

Especially paired against "Supertje 917" was more than a hit. "Supertje 917" bred in 2 generations 33 x 1st prizes ! 

 

The Schaerlaeckens pigeons had left an impression on Jan and when some time later Jan wanted to return to Ad for reinforcement, Ad could not offer him anything but he referred Jan to Wim Vermetten from Alphen. At that time, Wim was perhaps the best fancier in the Netherlands. Wim and Jan hit it off and in 2005 they swapped 5 pigeons and it was bingo again because Jan bred several first prize winners out of 3 Vermetten pigeons in a cross with his own pigeons. One of the Vermetten toppers is without any doubt "The Gentleman".

But Jan's search did not stop and he went to visit Gebroeders Van den Branden (Berlaar) and went home with a daughter from their famous "Diamant" (8 x 1st)

 

At the Comb. De Greef "Toon's Best" was purchased. A sizeable topper who passes on the right genes to his offspring without any problems. 

 

Also a visit to Embregts-Theunis (Hoevenen) and Maarten Huijsmans (Hoogerheide) provided the necessary "Shwung" and made the van der Putten pigeons perform even better. 

Unique and unseen! 
Despite going on reportage for many years, we have rarely seen the following victory sequence. Truly unique in contemporary pigeon racing. Impressive to see this list of honours! If winning first prizes is baked into the pigeons' DNA, the Jan van der Putten pigeons are a true enrichment for everyone's breeding loft!
