A review of a magnificent Pigeon Olympiad

29 Jan 2024

Last weekend it was gathering time for the international pigeon sport at the impressive MECC halen in Maastricht as the 38th Pigeon Olympiad took place there. MECC halen was the ideal place to organise this event because, in addition to the very spacious exhibition hall, the organisers could also use the various smaller congress halls to host other activities such as honours and congresses. All this not far from the centre of Maastricht.
Too bad that the honouring of the Olympic champions took place in a separate hall, thus depriving the honour and applause that Olympic champions deserve
On Friday, the FCI congress took place. Lots of discussion, several eyebrow-raising issues and when the new president was elected, known enthusiast Dr David Madeira from Portugal was allowed on stage. By a wide margin of votes, he was elected the new FCI president

On Saturday, it was real headlines in the main expo hall. Conviviality prevailed, international friendships were strengthened or forged. Not only the various commercial stands, but also the large hall where all Olympic champions were exhibited had many visitors. The international pigeon sport can more than use such days!
In the evening there was the gala evening and on Sunday afternoon the 38th Olympiad was concluded.

The next Olympiad will take place in China and within four years Blackpool, England, will organise the Olympiad.
