Schroyen – Stockmans from Heusden – Zolder take 2x provincial win in 2022

By forming the new tandem Ferdinand Schroyen and Ivan Stockmans, 2 top colonies came together. Both sold their old base with their best racers and started with a new breeding loft. Of course, these experienced hands in the business are not from yesterday and they will soon be back where they should be. By achieving 2 x 1st Provincial and 4 x 1st Region without doubles in 2022, they are really back at the top. Both fanciers are satisfied with their racing team, but the width will have to become even stronger to participate in national flights. But we are sure that they will succeed if you see what they have achieved in this short period.

The 2 provincial winners are 2 full sisters and come from a cock from Jan Hooymans crossed with a hen from Ivan. The pigeons from Hooymans are doing great here because 2 original pigeons from Jan were purchased and both are doing great in the breeding loft.

The racing team here consisted of 16 cocks and 20 hens, all of which were raced on classic widowhood. They should not be lazy here at the Schroyen – Stockmans house, because then it will not go well, from the first week and then into the basket as much as possible. The old birds are usually raced until mid-August and now they did an excellent job at Argenton last weekend.

The hens were darkened from the beginning of March to May 1 and were lit from the longest day until the end of the season. At the beginning of the season they are not motivated at basketing and only meet briefly when they return home. If you throw all trumps directly on the table, it will soon be over, says Ferdinand. They never stay together until the next morning because going into the night calmly is just as important for recovery. The racing hens train 1x a day and the cocks 2x.
Because we liked to race the racing hens on a nest at the end of the season, they were coupled at the beginning of July. Only during laying they were not played, but for the rest they were. Then the training is adjusted from morning to afternoon when their cocks are breeding. But training hard is still the message here.

Young pigeons

The youngsters are really trained here as a youngster, from April they get the training baskets from the stable. They are released 4 times in the garden to give confidence to the basket and afterwards they are driven to 5 – 15 – 30 and 50 km. Pigeons with confidence come home when they fly well at home. We will then drive it weekly to Heverlee until the flights start and then we will no longer drive. There is 1 loft of young cocks that are raced separately for the sprint and the other youngsters fly on the sliding door. The sliding door method is only used here when enough pairs have been formed, otherwise this method is pointless.

The racing pigeons are always given the mixtures of Galaxy Beyers, the youngsters are given Beyers Galaxy Breeding for a short period after weaning. This is followed by the switch to Beyers Galaxy Sport together with barley. This mixture is used throughout the season, except for the extreme middle distance, they add Beyers Galaxy Energy for the last 2 days.As extras they use Belgasol when they get home and a lot of garlic in the drinking water along with tea and oregano. The drinking pot is filled on Mondays and the water is added throughout the week until the week is over. 

In addition, we also use brewer's yeast and the yellow drops in the mouth every week. We regularly check the pigeons ourselves, but we have few problems with tricho. The breeders who are with Ivan are treated against tricho once a year.
