Olympiad Oradea 2022

22 Aug 2022

In the Romanian Oradea, the 37th Olympiad took place after all the problems we have known from Covid. The charming city kicked off the opening ceremony of the “Polyvalent Hall” on Friday, August 12. The FCI president ( Istvan Bardos ), FCI vice president Marius Tunduc ( organizer ), a prince from Romania and the mayor of Oradea gave their speeches during this ceremony. During the song “We are the champions” by Queen, a group of pigeons were released and the doors were opened.

The turnout was pleasant throughout the event, but not super busy, which is logical because of the organization during the racing season for several countries. But understandable because of the risk that Covid can rear its head again in the autumn. Back to the order of the day, at 1 pm the FCI Congress started and during the evening of the 1st day the Olympiad winners and the World Best Pigeon winners were honored in a beautiful celebration for the best pigeons in the world. The first evening was concluded with a local performance and the first night could be started.

Traditionally, the second day is mainly a trade fair day where one could also look at the Olympiad pigeons on display. In the afternoon, the ceremonies of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 World Championships and the Grand Prix of the past 3 years took place. This presentation was concluded with the honoring of honorary vice-chairman Stefaan Van Bockstaele. The second day ended with a nice dinner at the “Friendship Banquet” in the Ambassador Events Hall.

On Sunday the pigeons were returned so that everything had gone smoothly and the Olympiad was over.

The next Olympiad celebration will take place in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
