Kobe & Kato Herbots from Velm always looking for those all-round youngsters

With young pigeons shining year after year from speed to the national races, it's few given. The colony that does excel in this is Kobe & Kato Herbots from Velm. This colony is run by father Raf Herbots and his son Kobe (currently studying veterinarian for the 4th year at the University of Ghent) together with caretaker Jozef Reynaerts. Since 2013 they have taken the decision to only play with young pigeons and to let them compete for the first prizes from the speed up to and including the national races. This season they were again excellent !

Raf, is it true that Kobe was the first to build a pigeon loft here? 

That's right...as you know I'm one of the links at the tandem Herbots Gebroeders in Halle-Booienhoven, but it was indeed Kobe who started with the pigeons for the first time here in the Attenhovestraat. It must have been the year 2012 or 2013 that he made room in the garage to build a pigeon loft. Of course I wasn't against his initiative. Honestly...I already wanted to see that Kobe has a good "contact" with pigeons. Also during his holiday job at Uncle Jo and Aunt Miet, grandpa Filip already had it in the moth that Kobe has a good handling of pigeons. In 2014 the current loft was built...and the pigeon microbe did its job in our family. Luckily we can count on the help of Jef Reynaerts. Jef takes care of the pigeons in the morning and in the evening me and Kobe take care of it. Next year Kobe will go to the university of Ghent to start his vet studies. I'll have to work a little harder to do everything perfectly.

The strength is in the breeding loft

One would not expect it, but the breeding loft consists of only 12 breeding couples. This is the result of a very strict selection, because in spite of the annual search for the necessary reinforcement, the newcomers have little time to prove their qualities as a breeder. 

The really beating heart of the breeding loft consists of the lines of national winner and stud bear "F16" (Van Oeckel Bart and Nance) crossed "Black Buvie" (Buvens-Sleven).

In Velm there are no less than 3 children of "F16" on the breeding loft. From the coupling "F-Grissle" (a direct son of "F16") x "5025714-13" (a daughter from the supercouple of Buvens) there are 3 sons on the breeding loft.

A first son is "2059971-17" which is coupled to "super F16" (a daughter of "F16" x "Super One", the best youngster 2013 and 4th National ace "ace of ace LCB".

A second son "2059994-17" is coupled to "6059309-15" (a daughter "F16" coupled to the 6th Nat ace KBDB 2014 , also the 1st National ace "ace of ace LCB" 2014 (line Schepmans Erwin).

The third son is "2121390-19 "this is coupled to "Lady Grissle", a daughter "F16 grissle" x "Super Three" (won 1st national ace "as des ace 2017" and 1st prov ace KBDB foundation and is a daughter of "Gaston JR".

Another breeding phenomenon is "De Geoff" he is father of "Manuela": 1st best European ace 2019 Belgium and 1st provincial ace all round 2018 . "De Geoff" is a son of the 6 national Bourges against 36.307 youngsters and is an original Schepmans Erwin pigeon linked to again the "Super F16 ".

Some more valuable breeders are "2289420-16", a grandson of the "Kaasboer" (Van de Wouwer) linked to "2010452-16" winner of 5 x first prizes and a daughter of "Super Two" (5th national ace KBDB 2015 - 3rd national Argenton 11,215d). 

How about "5044229-17", a son of the 5th Olympic pigeon 2016 All-round (original Ceyssens Louis).

Another fixed value on the breeding loft is "1126541-17"... direct child of the tribe pair of Denis Sapin namely "Robert" x "Steffi".

This year another hen was bought from Schroyen Henderix namely "Super 717" she is the mother of the 9th national ace pigeon speed year KBDB 2019.

Also this year Anthony Maes bought a pigeon out of his best lines.
